Dance for Schools

Dance for Schools, gives pupils the opportunity to learn dance in their school as part of their academic and creative studies.

Our mission is to build social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem in children. By working with a partner in a dance setting, students are required to exhibit care, consideration, team work, and mutual respect all transferable skills necessary for adult life. People all around the world share many different dancing traditions, sometimes it is nice to have a sampling from many different places.  We learn familiar lessons about community and social interaction from dancing, whilst discovering similarities and celebrating differences between cultures. ....
Joseph and Trisha

Dancing is interdisciplinary, connecting many different lessons across many different curricula; music, physical education, history, and culture.  Just as importantly, it addresses social skills and community awareness as students learn the etiquette of dancing with different partners.  At its best, a dance session feels like play, with lessons contextualized within specific dance activities instead of lectures or presentations.

Kids like the movement and the music, but they are also learning important lessons about community, social interaction, history, and culture.

I just wanted to contact you straight away to thank you for a fantastic day. I have heard nothing but praise for you both from teachers and children alike. Apparently you are the coolest teachers we've eer had in school - pretty sickening for the rest of us!! I can't thank you enough, most of our children will never have experienced anything like that before and probably won't again for a long time.
M. Chapman, Monkfield Park, Cambridgeshire

Thanks again for a great workshop and the time spent giving them help with their theory. This is just what they need for this Unit and they have now got lots of material to play around with as well as a start for their written work. A few students now want to start after school classes...We will definitely have a follow up session and more workshops. Once again, thank you soooo much, really pleased with their progress thanks to you guys
K.Jackman, Bishop Wand, Surrey

Over 45 pupils enjoyed an hour long lesson with two professional dancers working through specific patterns and set movements that had been adapted to suit pupils with severe learning difficulties and special needs. The session ensured that all involved with the workshop gained maximum education and enjoyment from the class.

Joseph and Charlotte made a lasting impression on both staff and pupils not only with their teaching styles and delivery, but also with the exceptional and enthusiastic performance they demonstrated for the children.

Amwell View School would welcome Jiveswing back and recommend their services to other schools wishing to focus their classes on some classic vintage styles of dance.
A. Elms, Head of Dance
Amwell view School and Specialist College, Hertford

Thank you again for the amazing workshop which you and Charlotte ran, it had to be one of my best days at work in 6 years. The children had a fantastic time and could not stop talking about it. It was a great way to consolidate Year 4's World War Two topic and for our Year 5's to complete their dance unit in P.E. All the staff thoroughly enjoyed it too with both the head and deputy  being distracted from their daily duties to come and have a look on several occasions.

It was really good to see how engaged the children were, not only with the dancing itself but also with the history of the dance too.  Some of our more boisterous boys were particularly engaged I think helped by the fact that both you and Charlotte related well to the children in general but also as another member of staff said that you are 'a manly man!!!'.  I know that everyone at the school is looking forward to your next visit to us.

I would like to thank you for the excellent effort that you put into the sessions with the students.  It is such a pleasure for me to see them trying something a bit different and totally out of their comfort zone.
I would also like you to know that Jimmy (number one fan) responded to you and your direction better than anyone had ever seen before.  Anyway, don't be surprised if I turn up to one of your lessons.

Moulsham High, Chelmsford

"Once again, a big thank you for running such fun workshops for the kids last week." " I could see everyone enjoying themselves."  "I thought you might also like to have the feedback I have received so far....nothing specific, but good vibs all round - really well done!!."
K.Neal, Cambridgeshire

Thank you for all your hard work. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You were fun, clear and very informative, whilst maintaining the interest of the students.
A.Box, Head of Dance, Haileybury, Hertfordshire.

"The teachers were excellent and kept their enthusiasm throughout, even though it was a very hot and long day. The organisation went smoothly. The children, both girls and boys joined in the workshops willingly. They were inspired to learn and try their best even when the demonstrated dance moves were quite challenging. They remained on task even though the workshops were fairly long and required a lot of stamina.

"It was certainly a treat for the children to have such experts leading the workshops. Also it
was a fitting way to end the day with the children watching the workshop leaders perform, having had an introduction to the dance forms. ."
Parent, Cambridgeshire

"The children simply adored you. They had so much fun."
Channing, London

The majority of children in our school have little experience of varying cultures and sometimes they find it difficult to empathize and put themselves in somebody else's shoes. Very few go abroad on holiday. Through taking part in this exciting Day they were all given the opportunity to explore and gain some understanding of several different countries. It will be something that they will always remember"

"The children's enthusiasm did not stop at the end. They came back and asked to perform their dances in assembly to the rest of the school! So the whole school benefited from their experience. Thank you very much for your careful organisation. It is greatly appreciated"
