Thursdays, St Mary’s Church Hall, 8pm
Our Luton class is based at St Mary’s Church Hall, next to the University of Luton, run by a friendly group of people.
You’ll find us dancing and having heaps of fun, every Thursday, between 8-11pm.
What to Expect
Doors open at 7:45pm. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly crew who will guide you through ‘what’s what’. The night kicks off with a beginners class which lasts for 50mins.
You will have 10mins to practice and have some (free) refreshments whilst making new friends before the next class, which lasts a further 50mins. After this time we hope that you stay on, socialise and try out your new moves and dance with more experienced dancers! It’s a real fun night out, we think we’re the UK’s friendliest swing dance club!
We will focus primarily on Lindy Hop. However from time to time you will be introduced to a variety of other styles including 1920s Charleston, Balboa and Authentic Jazz. You can accelerate with workshops.
Adults of all ages come to dance, we have as many single people as we do couples. You don’t need a partner, previous experience or special clothing. Just wear clothes you’re comfortable moving about in and shoes/trainers (not with large grips).
St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Luton LU1 3JF.
Thursday Nights in Luton are held in a nice dance hall in the centre of Luton, next to the University. Parking at the Church is very limited so we do advise using the free parking on nearby side roads, after 6pm plus there is parking in the Power Court B car park opposite the venue.
Our Luton class attracts dancers from Hitchin, Dunstable, Stevenage, Letchworth and neighbouring villages.
When’s a Good Time to Start?
Our classes generally run in 7 week courses so you can progress throughout the weeks, however it doesn’t matter if you miss a couple or drop in on a later week as we always cater for beginners. If you are a brand newbie that has never danced before, you are welcome to join us on any week, however if you are taking your very first steps week 1 is a great place to start along with lots of other newbies!
A whole night of dancing costs £10 (£8 for full-time students with a valid ID showing full time education). If you want to come just for the social dancing (10pm onwards) it costs just £5.
We’re sure you’ll want to come more than once and attend a few socials. Why not get the Jiveswing Class Pass? For £80 (£64 students) you get 10 classes/socials for the price of 8!
We look forward to welcoming you to Jiveswing Luton!
