Wednesdays, Beechen Grove Church, 8pm
Our Watford class has been running since 2009, making it the longest-running swing dance night in the area. It’s full of lively characters, always quick to find the humour in every situation. Watford is also home to our monthly social dance, Harlem Nights, held on the first Saturday of every month.
You’ll find us eating too many biscuits on Wednesdays, 8-11 pm at Beechen Grove Church, Clarendon Road, WD17 1JJ.
What to Expect
Doors open at 7:45 pm. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly crew who will guide you through ‘what’s what’. The night kicks off with a beginners class which lasts for 50mins.
You will have 10mins to practise and have some (free) refreshments whilst making new friends before the next class, which lasts a further 50mins. After this time we hope that you stay on, socialise and try out your new moves and dance with more experienced dancers! It’s a real fun night out, we think we’re the UK’s friendliest swing dance club!
We will focus primarily on Lindy Hop. However, from time to time you will be introduced to a variety of other styles including 1920s Charleston, Balboa and Authentic Jazz. You can accelerate with workshops.
Adults of all ages come to dance, we have as many single people as we do couples. You don’t need a partner, previous experience or special clothing. Just wear clothes you’re comfortable moving about in and shoes/trainers (not with large grips).
The Venue
Beechen Grove Church, Clarendon Rd, Watford, Herts, WD17 1JJ.
Wednesday nights in Watford are held in a nice dance hall in the centre of Watford, opposite the Intu Centre. Parking at the Church can be limited on occasion so in those instances, we advise using the free parking on nearby side roads or you can use the Sutton Car Park (Estcourt Road, WD17 2PS) directly behind the venue. You also have the option of The Palace, Queens or Kings Car Parks which are opposite the venue.
Our Watford class attracts dancers from Amersham, Rickmansworth, Northwood, Hemel Hempsted, Ruislip, Harrow, Bushey and Stanmore.
When’s a Good Time to Start?
Our classes generally run in 7 week courses so you can progress throughout the weeks, however it doesn’t matter if you miss a couple or drop in on a later week as we always cater for beginners. If you are a brand newbie that has never danced before, you are welcome to join us on any week, however if you are taking your very first steps week 1 is a great place to start along with lots of other newbies!
Pricing
A whole night of dancing costs £10 (£8 for full-time students with a valid ID showing full-time education). If you want to come just for social dancing (10 pm onwards) it costs just £5.
We’re sure you’ll want to come more than once and attend a few socials. Why not get the Jiveswing Class Pass? For £80 (£64 students) you get 10 classes/socials for the price of 8!
We look forward to welcoming you to Jiveswing Watford!
